RICHARD THORNTON

 MILLER CITY – Richard F. “Dick” Thornton, 80, of Miller City, passed peacefully at 12:01 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2025 at The Meadows of Ottawa. He was born August 3, 1944, to the late Richard M. (Nancy) Thornton and Mary (Chamberlin) Thornton of Leipsic. He married the love of his life, the late Rebecca (Burnham) Thornton on June 13, 1964.
 Richard is also preceded in death by his brother, William J. (Bill) Thornton. He is survived by his sister, Carrol (Dave) Porter. He is also survived by his two sons: Richard D.(Barb) Thornton of Columbus Grove and Jon J. (Amy) Thornton of Springboro; five grandchildren: Richard C. (Michelle Darby) Thornton, Jolene (Kyle) Strohl, Amanda (Jarrod) Mautz, Ashley Thornton and Richard “Bubba” L. Thornton; two step-grandchildren: Tom Bogart and Chad Bogart; three great-grandchildren: Richard “Casey” Thornton, Jordi Thornton and Charlotte “Charlie” Strohl; one step-great-granddaughter, Aubrey Bogart.
 Richard was a 1962 graduate from Pandora-Gilboa High School. He retired from Hancock Gas Company after 40 years of service and then worked at Pike Run Golf Course for an additional 20 years. He was an active member of his community as a Miller City Sportsman’s Club member and was also a member of the Leipsic Eagles. He served his community as the Mayor of Miller City and was Fire Chief of the Miller City Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life, including studying the history of the Civil War, reading, playing golf, taking naps and woodworking. He enjoyed going on the Highway 127 Longest Yard Sale many times over the years. He also enjoyed playing cards with his family, his card club buddies and getting coffee every morning at the Pit Stop. Richard loved the Cleveland Browns and THE Ohio State Buckeyes.
 A memorial service will begin at 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2025 at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa with Rev. Mick Baumgartner officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
