Richard Kent “Rick” Spicer, 77 of Lima passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at St. Rita’s Hospital following a courageous 7 month battle with sepsis.
Rick was born on September 30, 1947 in Massillon, Ohio. He is now reunited with his parents, Charles and Dorothy Spicer, his sister Sue, brothers Tom, Terry, Tim, Don and most importantly his son, Jeremy, with whom he shared a birthday.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Gerker) Spicer and they were married on October 17, 1981, his children Kelly (Sheldon) Morris of Cridersville, and Shane (Gina) Spicer of Hilliard, his grandchildren Lillian and William Morris, Jack and Anna Spicer along with many Spicer and Gerker nieces and nephews.
Rick retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad, after 30 plus years, as a locomotive engineer. During his employment he was diagnosed with corneal dystrophy in both eyes. He underwent multiple corneal transplants which allowed him to regain the gift of sight.
He enjoyed spending time with his children and then grandchildren and working on cars. He was an avid fan of the Massillon Tigers and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
The family wants to thank the dedicated staff of The Springs of Lima nursing home and St. Rita’s Hospital for taking care of Rick.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday January 18, 2025, from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm, with a sharing session to follow immediately after the visitation at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home located at 1170 Shawnee Rd., Lima, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Lifeteen Program at Holy Face of Jesus Parish in Wapakoneta.
