GLANDORF Melvin J.
Lammers, 91, of Glandorf, passed away at 7:20 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. He was born August 28, 1932, in New Cleveland to the late Philip and Esther (Kuhlman) Lammers. On May 8, 1957, he married Mary Ann Duling. She survives in Glandorf. Other survivors include his four children: Diane (Jerome) Schroeder, Karen (Dale J.) Warnecke, Keith (Lois E.) Lammers and Dr. Darla (Chuck) Daniels, all of Glandorf; four grandchildren: Heidi and Katie Schroeder, John (fiancé Jenny Fisher) Lammers and Leah Lammers; three siblings: Rose Mary Rieman of Leipsic, Helen Gerding of Kalida, Jerry (Ginger) Lammers of Leipsic; a brother-in-law, Doug Aukerman of Findlay; and a sister-in-law, Esther Lammers of
Leipsic. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by four siblings: Elmer Lammers, Leon Lammers, Rita Jane (Bill) Hermiller, Alice Aukerman; and two brothers-in-law: Rudy Rieman and Jim Gerding. Melvin graduated from Miller City High School, where he was a member of the 1950 Boys State Championship Basketball team. He was the co-owner of Lammers & Gerding Bulk Plant and Jim & Mel’s Union 76 Gas Station for 26 years. Still to this day, his customers would call him, “The Bubble Gum Man.” Prior to owning his own business, he worked 10 years for Pure Oil. Melvin served as an Ottawa Township Trustee for 20 years. He was a member of the Ottawa Knights of Columbus since 1952, Ottawa Eagles since 1969, Glandorf Rod & Gun since the early 1970’s, and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf, where he served on the church council for a time. Melvin was a friend to many and maintained German friendships for almost 50 years. He was an avid basketball fan and enjoyed following the Glandorf Girls CYO team that he helped begin, O-G & Miller City Boys Basketball and the University of Findlay Men’s Basketball teams. Melvin loved playing cards, exercising, puzzles, Butterfinger candy bars, Limburger Cheese, antique tractors especially Silver King’s, and spending time with his family and friends. Funeral Mass will begin 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Matt Keller, Fr. Tony Fortman and Fr. Rick Friebel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Monday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
