KALIDA – Luella M. Schumaker, 86, of Kalida, passed away at 2:08 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2024, at The Meadows of Kalida. She was born June 6, 1938, in Toledo and shortly after adopted by the late William and Clara (Korte) Kramer. On June 22, 1957, she married William P. Schumaker, who preceded her in death on December 27, 2010. Luella is survived by four children: Diana (Keith) Johnson of Columbus Grove, Cynthia (Glenn) Schroeder of Ottawa, Kenneth (Mary Jane) Schumaker and Timothy (Lynn) Schumaker both of Kalida; eleven grandchildren: Kelly (Leo) Wortkoetter, Dana Johnson, Jenna (Tyler) Verhoff, Jeremy (Kaolin) Schumaker, Amanda (Charles) Maxey, William (Kelsey) Schumaker, Katelyn (Derek) Ricker, Benjamin (Megan) Schumaker, Katrina (Greg) Williams, Racheal (Adam) Kottenbrock and Joshua Schumaker; and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by an infant son, William Schumaker II; a grandson, Ross Alan Johnson; and a great-granddaughter, Gia Dana Verhoff. Luella was co-owner of Schumaker Trucking, where she worked in bookkeeping and dispatch. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, gardening, going out to eat and doing activities at The Meadows of Kalida. She was a very social and special person at The Meadows of Kalida and will be missed. She loved family time above all else and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her so much joy.
The family is so appreciative of the compassion and care at The Meadows of Kalida. They were so wonderful to mom and were like a second family to her. They would also like to extend a special thank you to Putnam County Homecare and Hospice for their kindness and care. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Phil Smith and Fr. Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Ottawa. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday prior to mass at the church.
