Kalida Judith Rose Nussbaum, 85 of Kalida died at 4:06 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2024, at her residence. She was sur- rounded by her three daughters and spouses, Keith and Gery. She was born August 4, 1939 in Loraine, Ohio to the late George and Lucille (Welter) Gilles. On May 14, 1960, she married Charles James Nussbaum, her blind date love, who preceded her in death. Survivors include three daughters: Brenda K. Kidd of Lima, Deborah R (Keith) Schnipke of Cloverdale and Diane M. (Gery) Wurth of Fort Jennings: eleven grandchildren: Sarah (Derek) Hubbard, Emily (David) Dailey, Brooke(Nicholas) Curry, Brianna (Andrew) Hanes, Alicia (Jonathan) Reitz, Amber (Ross)War- necke, Andrew (Treslynn Leatha) Schnipke, Alex (Kylie) Schnipke, Kyle (Jessica) Recker, Brandon (Lauren) Recker, Trevor Wurth; 18 great- grandchildren; two sisters: her twin Carol (Fred) Gillotti, Kathy (Joseph Degens) Gilles and a brother Greg (Diane) Gilles.
She was preceded in death by her two granddaughters: Megan and Brittany Schnipke; and a brother Dave (Linda) Gilles. Judith retired from St. Rita’s Medical Center, where she worked for 38 years as an x-ray technologist. She trained many incoming technicians, always providing them with guidance and encouragement as they learned their trade. Judy was highly skilled after so many years of service, often being requested by doctors due to her professionalism and expertise.
She was a member of Kalida St. Michael’s Parish, as well as the CLC and the Altar & Rosary Societies. Judy was an active participant in the Red Hat Society, a group which encourages women in their quest to get the most out of life. As a breast cancer survivor, she worked with CAPs, a Cancer Awareness Program, helping to raise money and awareness whenever possible. For many years Judith worked alongside her husband Charles in their home business of Crafts Unlimited, where she designed and fashioned floral arrangements and crafts. They hosted many open houses during the holidays where spiced apple cider was a customer favorite. Most importantly, Judy was a devoted wife and mother, often accompanying her husband on fishing expeditions to Lake Erie.
She lived a life of devotion and simplicity, content to be surrounded by family and friends, always praying and always smiling. Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Phil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Ottawa. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 29, 2024 and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME. Jackson Twp.
