JEANETTE I. MATHEW

Jeanette I. Mathew, 90, of Lima passed away at 3:46 PM on Monday, November 4, 2024 at Lima Memorial Hospital. She was born on February 6, 1934 in Lima to Dale W. and Gertrude C. (Keiffer) Lewis, who both preceded her in death. On August 12, 1956, she married Warren H. Mathew, who preceded her in death on December 21, 2021. Jeanette was a 1952 graduate of Shawnee High School and had attended Lima First Evangelical and Reformed Church.

She was a full-time homemaker and had worked at Sears as a clerk and volunteered at St. Charles Cafeteria and was a poll worker. She had a green thumb and loved spending time gardening and growing flowers. She enjoyed playing Bingo and playing board games with her grandkids. Jeannette was an accomplished baker and had won awards for her apple pie. She loved to watch football, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes. She was very witty and had an incredible sense of humor. Surviving are her son Dale (Susan) Mathew of Ottawa; her son-in-law Steven Smith of Lima; her four grandchildren: Nicole (Derrick) Wolf of Marysville, Tiffany (Clark) Garris of Sandusky, Nathan (Kelley) Mathew of Marysville and Cody (Kayla) Mathew of Columbus Grove; her six great-grandchildren Rylan, Morgan, Dakota, Hayden, Caleb, Dixon, Sloane and one on the way. Also surviving are her brothers Bill Lewis of Findlay and John Lewis of Lima; her sister Diane Anderson of Lima.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Brady Mathew; her daughter Denise Smith; her brothers Donald and Steven Lewis and her sister LaVaun Counts. There will be a private Celebration of Life held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the American Cancer Society or plant a tree in Jeanette’s honor.
