ELIZABETH LOUISE MEYER POULIADIS

Elizabeth Louise Meyer Pouliadis passed away on January 20, 2025, in Sugar Land, Texas. She was born on November 8, 1933, to Edwin J. and Lenore B. Meyer near Leipsic in Putnam County, Ohio. Affectionately known as Betty Lou, she was the sixth of nine children and grew up on a farm in rural Ohio. She attended New Cleveland Elementary and Miller City High School, graduating as the Salutatorian. She was active in school activities and served as a cheerleader for the 1950 Class B State Basketball Champion Miller City Wildcats. She went on to receive an associate’s degree from Sienna Heights College in Adrian, Michigan.
She married Leo J. Lammers on June 22, 1955. After the birth of their first child, Betty and Leo moved to Roswell, New Mexico. In Roswell, they met many lifelong friends while being active members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. They had five more children in Roswell. Then the family moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, followed by Houston, Texas where their seventh child was born. With seven young kids, Betty was a busy mom, often managing the family by herself while Leo traveled away on lengthy field trips for his job as petroleum geologist. The family moved to Dallas, back to Houston and then settled in San Antonio, Texas.
As her children grew up, Betty received her real estate license and became a successful Real Estate Agent, and in her fifties returned to school and earned her nursing degree, becoming an RN. She worked as a nurse in the Houston area until she was 72. Betty had many talents including baking, cooking, sewing, decorating and gardening. She loved to sing, dance and play the piano. She stayed active her entire life, playing tennis, walking, going to the gym and picked up golf in her 60s. She looked forward to watching all the major tennis championships.
Betty met Stamatios (Stamo) Pouliadis while dancing at the Old Heidelberg Restaurant in Houston and on May 24, 1998, they were married. Stamo and Elizabeth (as Stamo liked to call her) enjoyed dancing, cooking, dining out, hosting celebrations and traveling to Europe, especially Greece, where Stamo was from.
Betty delighted in entertaining and throwing parties for her friends and family. The highlight of her year was celebrating Christmas with her large family, cooking wonderful meals and desserts for everyone. Her mother’s sugar cookie recipe was legendary, now passed on to her granddaughters. Betty lived a full and joyful life. She will be remembered as a warm, caring person who loved to laugh and whose smile could light up the room. Most of all, she cherished being a mom, grandma and great grandmother, loving all her kids and making each one feel special. She will be deeply missed.
Betty is survived by her seven children: Michael (Christie) Lammers, David (Terri) Lammers, Richard (Jill) Lammers, Gerald (Heather) Lammers, Joanne Lammers, Christopher (Linda) Lammers and Kathryn (Jerry Mitchell) Lammers; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren; first husband and father of her children Leo J. Lammers; brothers Roy (Jean) and Elmer (Dorothy) Meyer and sister Nancy Jane Urbansky (Don).

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to caregiver Brandy Duckworth who provided loving care and support to Betty in her final months.
A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life is planned at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery in Houston on February 28, 2025.
