KALIDA – Clayton H. Maag, 92, of Kalida, passed away at 7:08 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Putnam Heritage Assisted Living, Ottawa. He was born October 6, 1932, in Glandorf to the late Frank and Margaret (Nierman) Maag. On April 8, 1953, he married Delores A. “Snookie” Hovest, who preceded him in death on April 1, 2023.
He is survived by three children: Alan (Audrey Weis) Maag of Toledo, Pam Inbody of Columbus Grove and Sheila (Patrick) Beck of Brecksville; ten grandchildren: Adam Maag, Amanda (Marcel) Maag, Stacy Inbody, Eric (Andrea) Inbody, Tyler (Samantha) Inbody, Ryan (Elyse) Inbody, Michael Beck, Sarah (Scott) Wolfe, Joseph (Danielle) Beck and Katie (A.J.) Boeh; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Sr. Francis Margaret; and a sister-in-law, Mildred “Millie” Maag.
He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ken Inbody; three sisters: Alice Brandon, Jeanette Jacobs and Delores Kiernan; and three brothers: Carl Maag, Paul Maag and Oscar Maag.
Clayton was a U.S. Army Veteran, who served during the Korean War from 1953 1959. He retired from Superior Coach, Lima, where he worked for 28 years. He was a member of the Ottawa American Legion, Ottawa VFW and Knights of Columbus, Kalida Council 5669, where he was a 4th Degree Knight. Clayton attended St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida and was also a member of its Holy Name Society. He enjoyed dancing, fishing and playing cards. Clayton loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 13, 2025 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. A rosary service will begin at 7:45 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
