This article is a reminder for those with farmland leases that September 1 is just around the corner. Many acres of land in Putnam County are leased each year to grow a variety of crops. If you are involved in a lease agreement, does your document have an established date or method for termination? If your answer is “no”, then be advised that Ohio law requires landlords who want to terminate farm crop leases to do so in writing by September 1.

NHTSA to work with local law enforcement to deter impaired driving tragedies

Putnam County, Ohio — From August 14 through September 2, which includes the Labor Day holiday weekend, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will be working alongside local law enforcement for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over high-visibility enforcement campaign.

Budget Commission approves motion to distribute county’s local government funds to townships and villages

PUTNAM COUNTY — Last Monday, the Putnam County Budget Commission, composed of main members County Prosecutor Gary Lammers, County Treasurer Tracy Warnecke, and County Auditor Robert Benroth, approved a motion to distribute the county’s 30% share of 2025 local government funds (LGFs) to Putnam County’s villages and townships.

Ottawa Brewing Company is now open!

OTTAWA — On Thursday, August 8, Ottawa Brewing Company (OBC) held their long-awaited grand opening of their brewery. Dan Stechschulte, co-owner of OBC, explained that he and his fellow co-owners of the new business had been involved in Go Ottawa, a local group focused on downtown revitalization and community building, and through that movement the necessity of opening such a business, a hallmark of successful downtowns, had been very obvious to them.
