Titans open with win at Oak Harbor

OAK HARBOR — Ottawa-Glandorf's offense was strong in the middle two quarters and their defense held Oak Harbor in check as the Titans claimed a 34-17 non-league win in their season opener.
The Rockets had two leads in the opening half against the Titans as Jourdan Maguire kicked a 26 yard field goal in the opening quarter that the Titans Mitchell Niese matched in the second with a 20 yard field goal. Oak Harbor regained the lead on a 65 yard scoring run by Andrew Heberling with 8:02 left in the second quarter before O-G scored three times for a lead they wouldn't lose.
After the Rockets went up 10-3, the Titans battled back to tie the game with 4:30 left in the half as Brad Recker hauled in an 11 yard scoring strike from Zac Unterbrink. The Titans took a 17-10 lead just before the half as Unterbrink and Colin Laubenthal hooked up on a five yard scoring pass.
O-G extended their lead 29 seconds into the second half as Logan McDermott scored on a 35 yard run for a 24-10 lead.
Oak Harbor pulled within a touchdown as Heberling scored on a five yard run with 5:58 left in the quarter. The Titans answered back late in the quarter as Unterbrink hit Zach Kuhlman with a 44 yard scoring pass.
Niese closed out the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 25 yard field goal.
Unterbrink had a big game for the Titans with 72 yards rushing on 14 carries and he was 18-of-30 passing for 253 yards and three scores with a pick. Logan McDermott had 58 yards rushing for the Titans, while Kuhlman caught seven passes for 125 yards and Recker had four catches for 55 yards.
Heberling had 182 yards on the ground for Oak Harbor on 22 carries. Quarterback Andre Ramsey was 6-of-16 passing for 45 yards with no touchdowns and two picks.
Noah Recker had nine tackles on defense for the Titans, while Ben Recker and Bryce Utrup both had eight stops. Brad Recker had seven tackles and two pass breakups.
