GLANDORF — Ben Deitering's two out, two run double in the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday evening lifted Ottawa-Glandorf to a 7-5 win over Van Wert in ACME baseball action.
The Titans (3-7) trailed 5-4 going to the bottom of the fifth when Leon Palomo scored on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Diemer to tie the game at 5-5.
After the Cougars (10-4) left two runners on base in the top of the sixth inning, O-G managed to score twice in the bottom of the sixth for the win.
Tory Schroeder opened the O-G sixth with a walk and Austin Verhoff reached on a single. Chandler Kersh attempted to bunt the runners over, but Van Wert pitcher Ryan McCracken fielded the bunt quickly and threw to third base to get Schroeder. A groundout to first base advanced Verhoff and Kersh a base before Deitering stepped in and smacked a double to left-center that scored Verhoff and Kersh for a 7-5 lead.
In the top of the seventh, the first two Van Wert batters reached as Jake Williamson and Gavin Gardner singled before they were sacrificed to second and third base. A flyball to center and a popup to the pitcher ended the game.
Noah Recker picked up the win for O-G and Deitering worked the seventh for a save. Evan Barrett and Diemer also worked in the game for the Titans.
Verhoff, all singles, had three hits for the Titans in the win.
McCracken took the loss for Van Wert as he was the third of three pitchers Van Wert used the game.
Brandt Henry and McCracken both had two hits for the Cougars, who had 10 hits in the game, but stranded 14 base runners in the contest.
The Titans are back in action Friday as they begin ACME sectional tournament play at Columbus Grove against the Bulldogs at 6 p.m.
