Ottawa Legion falls to Findlay

FINDLAY — Findlay scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to edge Ottawa 6-5 in American Legion baseball action Wednesday evening at Flag City Field.
Ottawa had tied the game in the top of the eighth inning on a Brad Stolly single that scored Blake Hoffman from third base. In the bottom of the inning a throwing error by Ottawa allowed Findlay to regain the lead.
Post 63 had a runner at third base in the ninth inning as Drew Schierloh opened the inning with a double and took third on a sacrifice bunt by Trent Phillips. A strikeout and flyball to right field ended the game.
Ottawa opened the game scoring a run in the top of the first inning. The score stayed 1-0 until the fifth inning when Post 63 scored twice. Findlay got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth with a run and Ottawa answered back with a run in the top of the sixth. Findlay scored four times in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 lead setting up the final two innings.
Chandler Stillings picked up the win for Findlay working the final two innings. Isaac Sexton worked two innings and Garret Sendelbach worked five innings. Findlay pitchers combined to strike out 11 Ottawa batters in the game and walk two.
Ross Adolph had two singles and a solo home run for Findlay and Chris Hampton had two singles and a double. Grant Akin and Nick Bowden both had two hits as Findlay banged out 15 hits in the game.
Wes Rickenburg took the loss for Ottawa as he went the final 1 1/3 innings. Matt Warnecke started and went 6 2/3 innings.
Jacob Lerch had two singles and a solo home run for Post 63 in the game, while Hoffman had three singles and two RBIs. Schierloh and Phillips both had a single and double. Ottawa pounded out 14 hits in the game.
Ottawa is back in action Friday evening as they host Pemberville at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Field. This will be Fan Appreciation Night for Ottawa.
