ST. Marys — Ottawa-Glandorf overcame an early St. Marys lead Tuesday afternoon to defeat the Roughriders 6-3 in Western Buckeye League baseball action.
The Roughriders (0-1, 4-1) had a 3-0 lead after three innings as they scored a run in the first inning and two in the third innings. The Titans pulled within 3-2 with two runs in the fourth inning, then took the lead with three runs in the fifth inning. O-G (1-0, 2-1) added an insurance run in the sixth inning.
Tanner Schimmoeller (1-1) picked up the win for O-G as he went the distance allowing three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and a walk.
Ben Deitering had a double and single for the Titans with two RBI. Tyler Zender had a single and double and Chandler Kersh had two singles.
Nathan Wilker took the loss for St. Marys.
Isaac Fitzgerald had a double for the Roughriders, while Mason Gross and Zack Wilker both had two singles.
Columbus Grove 6
OTTOVILLE — Columbus Grove held off an Ottoville rally to claim a 6-4 Putnam County League win.
The game was moved to Ottoville because of wet fields at Columbus Grove, where the game was scheduled for.
The Bulldogs had a 4-0 lead before the Big Green finally solved Grove starter Josh Verhoff to rally with four runs in the fifth inning. Columbus Grove scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning for the win.
Verhoff picked up the win for the Bulldogs as he went 4 1/3 innings allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits with 10 strikeouts and a walk. Verhoff struck out eight of the first nine batters he faced in the game.
Riley Brubaker was credited with a save as he went 2 2/3 innings not allowing a run on two hits. He had four strikeouts and four walks.
Verhoff paced the Bulldogs offense with a pair of doubles and three RBI’s. Jake Utendorf had a double and RBI and Zach Brinkman had a double.
Luke Schimmoeller took the loss for the Big Green as he worked five innings allowing six runs, two earned, on eight hits. He had four strikeouts and walked two. Kyle Bendele worked an inning in relief recording two strikeouts.
Schimmoeller had two hits and an RBI for Ottoville and oel Beining had two hits and two RBI. Brandon Boecker had a hit and RBI.
