Dear Friends of Putnam County

Community Thrift Store,

The “2016” Christmas For the Needy” was a successful endeavor. We wish to take this opportunity to say “Thank You” for your contribution of either money, food, clothing, and especially your volunteer time to the needy families of Putnam County. Without your support, it could not have happened. We are very appreciative of your generosity.

There were 497 families who received assistance through the program this year. Included in this number were 577 children 12 and under, 149 children 13-18 and 835 adults. This comes to a total of 1,561 family members. We delivered food boxes to 42 homebound families.

Each family was given the opportunity to select an assortment of good, used clothing, a food box, paper products, store certificates and a small amount of other items from the store. At this initial visit everyone 13-18 years of age was given one $10 Dollar General gift card. Each family also received a dozen eggs, bread, and meat.

Those families who had children 12 years of age and younger were sent on to receive toys. On Dec. 21 and 22, a “toy store” was set up at the Ottawa Eagles Hall. Several thousand dollars worth of toys were donated by the area supporters of Toys for Tots. Some parents purchased toys for their children, while others let their children choose their own presents. These families also received additional free items, such as, toiletries, new books, stocking stuffers, gloves, hats, socks and coats. It was a tremendous experience for all.

Food boxes were valued at $150 each, and clothing was $40 per bag. This along with the value of the toys donated by the communities, amounted to an average of $250 per family in donations. Please accept our Heartfelt Thanks for all you did to make the program such a success. God Bless You!

Sincerely,

Nancy Macke, Tammy Schmitz, Store Mgrs.
