Virgil J. Schroeder, 97, of Findlay died at 8:58 PM Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 at Birchaven Village. He was born on Nov. 19, 1916 to the late Benjamin and Louisa (Hoffman) Schroeder. On Oct. 8, 1941, he married Rosemary D. Schroeder and she preceded him in death on March 20, 1997.
Surviving him are two sons, James L. (Joanne E.) Schroeder of Upper Sandusky and Michael J. (Lori A.) Schroeder of Waterville; three daughters, Marilyn K. Gidick of Greensburg, PA; Barbara J. (John) Wagner of Custar; and Elizabeth Ann (Kevin) Fitzpatrick of Springfield, IL; eleven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Oscar (Marie) of Findlay and Louis of Bluffton, IN; a sister, Mary Lou Schroeder of Leipsic along with two sisters-in-law, Gert and
Alice Schroeder. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Schroeder (deceased Aug. 31, 2010); a son-in-law, David Gidick; two brothers, Donald "Smokey" and Cyril and two sisters, Rita Klausing and Alice Ruhe.
He was retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation, he also delivered for the Old Dutch Brewery. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and loved golf. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, March 3, 2014 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Downtown with Father Jim Brown presiding.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME where the Rosary Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Memorials may be made St. Michael Parish in his memory.
