FORT JENNINGS - Elizabeth J. Elwer, 78, died at 7:45 p.m. Nov. 19, 2013, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 27, 1934, in Fort Jennings to Gilbert "Gip" and Wilma Giesken Luebrecht. Her mother died in 1936. Her father and stepmother, Agnes Rayman Luebrecht, who raised her as her own, both preceded her in death. On Dec. 29, 1956, she married Gale Edward Elwer, who survives in Fort Jennings. They were married for 56 years.
Mrs. Elwer was a nurse and a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings, and St. Christopher Catholic Church, Hobe Sound, Fla. She enjoyed traveling as an Air Force wife and visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who live throughout the country. She was an avid euchre player. She also enjoyed working out, painting and doing other crafts.
Survivors also include two sons, Gary (Diane) Elwer, of Eustis, Fla., and Gregory (Tammy) Elwer, of Roswell, Ga.; three daughters, Linda (Mark) Wihl, of Tracy, Calif., Diane Elwer, of Grand Junction, Colo., and Sandra (John) Macias, of Sacramento, Calif.; a sister, Shirley (Joseph) Mesker, of Fort Jennings; three brothers, Dennis (Sandra) Luebrecht, Donald (Nancy) Luebrecht and Duane (Sharon) Luebrecht, all of Fort Jennings; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn (Robert) Heitmeyer.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at noon Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings. Father Charles Obinwa will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m., and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
