PUTNAM COUNTY — “Offenders move frequently, so instead of having to check the maps on a weekly basis, the best way to stay informed is to take advantage of our free email alert system,” reads a flier created by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office regarding a new program launched by Sheriff Brian Siefker to help residents and businesses know when a convicted sex offender has moved into their area.

Those interested in being so informed can visit to sign-up for the email alerts. To register, residents are asked to provide their full name, a phone number, the email address they would like to use to receive the alerts, and a physical address that will serve as a centerpoint for identifying any offenders that are living within the specified radius of that address. There is no cost for this service, no limit to the number of addresses that can be registered and all submitted information is kept confidential. Once registered, the address will be continuously monitored and an email alert automatically sent whenever an offender moves near to the address.
