CELINA — Ottawa-Glandorf's boys track and field team got off to a solid start Thursday evening at the Western Buckeye League track and field meet.
The Titans had a pair of wins, one runner-up finish and a double placement to score 42 points to lead the WBL meet after four events scored. Celina is in second place with 24 points and Wapakoneta is third with 17 points.
On the girls side, the Lady Titans are second with 20 points as they trail the host Bulldogs by two points. St. Marys is third with 18 points.
The Titan boys got off to a good start as they won the 3200 Relay, while Colin Laubenthal won the pole vault and was second in the long jump. In the shot put, Ben Recker and Jason Schnipke both placed to help the Titans repeat efforts.
The Titans 3200 Relay team of Brad Recker, Sid Moening, Trevor Ellerbrock and Matias Trampe-Kindt cruised to a win in 8:17.93 as Van Wert was second with a time of 8:24.73.
Laubenthal won the pole vault as he defeated Shawnee's Jake Thomas in a jumpoff. Laubenthal cleared 13-0 in the jumpoff, while Thomas didn't to give the O-G vaulter the win.
In the long jump, Laubenthal finished second to Celina's Jack Hinders by two inches. Laubenthal was second with a jump of 20-4 1/2, while Hinders won with a leap of 20-6 1/2.
In the shot put, Ben Recker finished second with a throw of 48-3 1/4 and Schnipke was third with a toss of 46-9 3/4.
The Lay Titans picked up a win as Anna Bellman won the discus with a throw of 124-7. Michelle Maag cleared 4-8 in the high jump to finish fourth and O-G's 3200 Relay team of Alex Verhoff, Kialee Koch, Kelsey Bockrath and Kelly Schmitz finished third in 10:14.11.
The WBL meet concludes today with the remaining field events starting at 4:30 p.m. and the running finals starting at 6 p.m.
