KALIDA — Beginning August 1 two Putnam County Schools will have new superintendents. On Wednesday evening, Kalida School Board approved hiring Karl Lammers as the new superintendent of Kalida Local Schools. He will become superintendent on August 1, taking the place of Donald Horstman who has accepted a position as superintendent at Ottawa-Glandorf Local Schools.

Lammers is currently the elementary principal at Kalida Elementary School. He has held that position since June 1999.

The Kalida Board gave Lammers a three-year contract as superintendent. They also accepted the resignation of Horstman as superintendent at the same meeting. Horstman will begin his duties at Ottawa-Glandorf on August 1.

Horstman was approved as the new superintendent during a special Ottawa-Glandorf School Board meeting on Saturday, May 17, following a two-month search to find a replacement for the district's outgoing superintendent, Kevin Brinkman.

Horstman served as the Kalida Local School District Superintendent for the past six years and as high school principal for the preceding five. The Ottawa-Glandorf School Board approved a three-year contract for Horstman.

Horstman said the Kalida school board will now be looking for a new elementary principal.
