COLUMBUS GROVE — Standing side-by-side four men from Columbus Grove
Christian Church labeled themselves as “the flippers.” They aren’t
contestants in the snowboarding halfpipe competition. These men are
pancake flippers for the annual pancake meal at the church. The group is
headed by Jim Doty.
Last year the men, who are trustees at the
church, helped flip all-you-can-eat pancakes for over 800 people. The
church trustees said they are expecting that many this year including
athletes from Columbus Grove fall and winter sports. Each year The Union
Bank and Columbus Grove Lions Club pay for the tickets for these
students to attend the event.
“The Union Bank also allows us to
use their parking lot during the event,” said trustee Bill Hofferbert.
“We really appreciate that.”
Bart Mills, marketing officer for The
Union Bank, said hosting the athletes at the supper is a way for the
bank to give back to the community.
The pancake supper is at the
church at 105 S. Broadway, Columbus Grove, Thursday, Feb. 27, from 4:30
p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Cost for the tickets are $6.50 pre-sale and $7 at the
window. Children 6-12 years old can eat for $4 and under six is free.
Carry-outs are also available.
Tickets are available by calling the church. Proceeds from the pancake supper are used for church expenses and purchases.
